Farmer’s Wife 1930’s Quilt Along: Week 3

I am on a quilting heat these past weeks, but not for my Farmer’s Wife Blocks. They have been neglected, as I am trying to finish up some custom orders. With some late night epp I managed to finish two blocks from the Farmer’s Wife 1930’s Quilt.

My blocks for this week are “Hope” and “Alice”.

no. 43 Hope

This beauty has inset seams but with english paper piecing that is no problem at all! Beautiful block, gorgeous fabrics, and really easy piecing!

Technique: English Paper Piecing
Fabrics: Purple and white from the collection 30’s Playtime by Chloe’s Closet (Moda Fabrics) and orange from Adventures With Alice by Darlene Zimmerman (Robert Kaufman Fabrics).

no. 3 Alice

Oh my! This block took forever!!! Literally, I have been struggling to finish it for 2 weeks of slow sewing. Even though there were many small-tiny pieces, it was manageable to sew. I still love it!

Technique: English Paper Piecing
Fabrics: Fabrics from the collection 30’s Playtime by Chloe’s Closet (Moda Fabrics) and Kona cotton white (Robert Kaufman Fabrics).

Have a nice day!

Quilts are the most intimate and personal of objects. They connect us with each other to the primal ground of the bed-the place we spend half our lives; where we are born, sleep, have sex, and die; the place where we replenish ourselves and dream our dreams; the place of nurture and healing, where we retreat in sickness and frailty; and the place where we receive the comfort and care of those who love us.
