Northwind
The Northwind quilt block has half square triangles and bias edge piecing, but it works well for a confident beginner and surely teaches you to manage those “strange” bias edges.
Making a whole quilt with the Northwind quilt block has a very beautiful final effect that is often surprising. It works very well if you plan to make it using ombre colored fabrics.
Cutting Instructions for the Northwind quilt block
Be careful when sub-cutting some of the squares on the diagonal, not to stretch the triangles. When piecing the final big triangles of the block you should mark the center of the triangle, as well as, the center of the other unit, match them, and then carefully piece the 2 together.
Always remember FINISHED SIZE means the size it will be in a completed quilt. The measurements given already have the ¼ inch allowance included.

Cut 3 SQ from dark & white/light fabric (SUBCUT in half on the diagonal 1 square from dark & 1 from light fabric)
Cut 1 SQ from dark & white/light fabric (SUBCUT in half on the diagonal)
