Lifesaver quilt pantone challenge

Lifesaver Quilt, the Pantone Challenge 2019

While writing the #lifesaverquilt pattern, I was playing around in Illustrator a lot to find color pallettes that fit my taste. This particular one, was the second one I had in mind, and immediately it came to life.

Sometimes, our instinct tells us more than we give it credit for! So coral, terracotta and mustard were a must-use-asap colors. And they happened to be in hand!

Quilt Process

Piecing this quilt was a breeze! I have memorized the pattern by hard and, as always, my only concern was seam nesting. With the detailed pressing instructions, writen on my pattern, it was really hard to make any mistake.

Machine Quilting

I quilted this quilt using a 2 inch grid size, and it feels almost aetherial! My method for quilting in this design, on my home machine, is that I first quilt the whole one side of it with stitch-in-the-ditch technique, and than go back and fill out the rest of the lines. That way the quilt is much more stable and you get to play with the grid size that you want.

Quilt Dimensions

This quilt is throw size quilt and it measures 64” x 64” inches.

Welcome to Zarkadia Quilting Co.!

Quilts are the most intimate and personal of objects. They connect us with each other to the primal ground of the bed-the place we spend half our lives; where we are born, sleep, have sex, and die; the place where we replenish ourselves and dream our dreams; the place of nurture and healing, where we retreat in sickness and frailty; and the place where we receive the comfort and care of those who love us.
