Meadowland quilt wip

Meadowland quilt – WIP

Well, yes Me Too 🐆. I indulged in the making of a very mainstream pattern. I mean VERY mainstream! Along with so many talented quilters, I participated to this year’s Meadowland QAL, that was hosted by the designer. The Meadowland is a quilt pattern by Then Came June, and this is the second QAL she’s hosting.

For this blog post I am only going to give you many, many, many photographs and a few insides of the making, but the real stats of the quilt will come out when it is finished.

Choosing the fabrics was not difficult, since I chose all the prints I had by Suzuko Koseki, and adding a few solids to complement those fabulous fabrics. She is my favorite Japanese fabric designer! And thank G that I have some more left to make another quilt…

And on to the photos: Since my son grew up and is more willling to pose for me, well he has been doing a great job, even for just 10 minutes. This is usually enough, to get a decent photo. The next photoshoot was on a forest area near Thessaloniki, and it was our LAST field trip before the Covid19 ⛔️ quarantine/lockdown. Now we spend our time at home, the whole fam together, working, playing, etc. But never bored!

Basting

This quilt is going to be handquilted, so my immediate next step was to baste it as soon as possible. The last time I thread basted a quilt (almost 2 years ago), I said to myself ‘I have to record this process’ for others to see. So here I am.

I organised everything, worked 1 full day setting up the room for filming and then another 4 days in a row filming and thread basting to show you how I do this part of my quilt preparation for hand-quilting.

Thread basting is my preferred method of basting when I actually intend to handquilt my work. I always baste my quilts on a table, and since I learned how to do it, I have never returned on the floor. I was literally killing 💀 my back!

The video is fast forwarded and it includes four days of work!

This Week's Statistics

Mandolin quilt: This is a dear quilt for me that I started 2 years ago, and it is an ongoing work of mine.

Farmer’s Wife quilt (1920): a long forgotten quilt that didn’t gain my attention since 2016, I think. I have made about 30 blocks, and left it there. Maybe someday.

Farmer’s Wife 1930’s quilt: Same here but with just a couple blocks.

Stay home, stay safe!

What a great version. I have it in my stash to quilt, but your fabrics make me want to get a whole new stash! Love this!

I have really enjoyed seeing all the many versions of this quilt during the QAL. There’s so much opportunity to play with different fabrics in this quilt. Your version is so pretty! Thank you for sharing it on Main Crush Monday!

What a beautiful quilt! It might be mainstream, but the fabric choices make each one unique. I’ve seen several people who thread baste their quilts and admire their dedication!

Thank you Jayne! It’s not so difficult as it seems, and I don’t get to have pins on the way of my quilt while quilting!
