Farmer's Wife Quilt week 22: quilt blocks Checkerboard and Cups & Saucers
Every time I choose the next pair of blocks for my Farmer's Wife Quilt Sampler, I'm reminded how much variety is hidden within traditional patchwork. Some blocks are wonderfully simple, relying on repetition and contrast to create their beauty. Others are more intricate, using geometry to suggest movement and direction. That's exactly what makes sampler quilts so enjoyable—no two blocks feel quite the same. This week I completed Block 19 – Checkerboard and Block 25 – Cups & Saucers , two classic quilt blocks that couldn't be more different in appearance, yet complement each other beautifully. Block 19: Checkerboard It doesn't get much more iconic than a checkerboard pattern. At first glance, this block appears incredibly simple, but that's exactly where its beauty lies.
