Proxima quilt – WIP

In the heart of my quilting haven, where threads and fabrics entwine to create stories stitched in color, a new patchwork adventure unfolds. Join me, in a new project that started in 2022, and is about to end. The marriage of english paper piecing and applique has always been a successfull one, and if you add some scrapiness than it is a match made in heaven!

At the heart of this project are the 6-point stars, each handcrafted using the English paper piecing technique and a favorite scrap fabric. As the stars are pieced together, they are applied onto a square piece, which will, in the end, form another secret design, beneath it. But this won’t be revealed yet.

One of the joys of working on a scrappy quilt is the spontaneity it allows. Each fabric scrap tells a story, and as I sew them into this quilt, those stories intermingle. There’s a sense of nostalgia in repurposing cherished fabrics from previous projects, each bringing its own memories and meaning to the design. The scrappiness creates an element of surprise, where you never quite know which fabric will be the perfect fit until you try it.

A work-in-progress quilt is a testament to patience and the beauty of the journey. There are moments when the quilt seems to speak, guiding me in choosing the next fabric or star placement. It’s a project that unfolds at its own pace, demanding time and attention, but rewarding with the promise of a one-of-a-kind creation.

As I continue to work on this quilt, only a few blocks are left, I am reminded of the magic in the process. Stay tuned for updates on this quilt’s evolution.
